On Thursday, Apple announced that Self-Service Repair for Macs with the M1 chips would be available tomorrow. The program will provide repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and tools through the Apple Self-Service Repair Store.

Self Service Repair launched earlier this year and the program will expand to additional countries — beginning in Europe — as well as additional Mac models later this year.

With Self Service Repair for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, you can get your MacBook back to working order in as little as an hour.

Self Service Repair offers more than a dozen different repair types for each model, including the display, top case with battery, and trackpad, with more to come. Customers who are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices will be able to complete repairs on these Mac notebooks, with access to many of the same parts and tools available to Apple Store locations and Apple Authorised Service Providers.

To start the Self Service Repair process, a customer will first review the repair manual for the product they want to repair by visiting support.apple.com/self-service-repair. Then, they can visit the Apple Self-Service Repair Store and order the necessary parts and tools.

Once a customer has ordered their repair parts through the store, their device can be repaired by an Apple Authorized Service Provider using our detailed instructions for each device model that is eligible for self-service repair. If you have any questions about your device’s eligibility for self-service repair or how to order parts, please contact Apple Support at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273).

Every genuine Apple part is designed and engineered for each product and goes through extensive testing to ensure the highest quality, safety, and reliability. Customers can send replaced parts back to Apple for refurbishment and recycling, and in many cases receive credit for their purchase by doing so.

That’s because every Apple product is built to last—and we want you to get the most out of your device. If you ever need to replace a broken part that wasn’t covered by your warranty (and we know that happens all the time), don’t worry! We’re here for you. Just drop off your device at any Apple Repair Store, or send it in for repair using our online service.

Self-service repair is a convenient, cost-effective way to get your device repaired. For the vast majority of customers who do not have experience repairing electronic devices, visiting a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to get your device repaired.

Over the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and training. This includes more than 3,500 Independent Repair Providers in over 100 countries, as well as more than 5,000 Apple Authorised Service Providers in over 200 countries.

As a result of this commitment to providing the highest quality of service to our customers around the world, in the US eight out of 10 Apple customers are located within 20 minutes of an authorized service provider.
